Hi there!

Welcome to Rethink Wellness with Jeni! If you’ve stumbled upon this little speck of the online cosmos, 1) I'm glad you're here! and 2) it’s probably because you’re juggling a career, kids, and the million other things life throws your way, and you're thinking this. is. hard. (and if you're not, tell me your secrets!!). But guess what? You’re in the right place! With hundreds of other women who feel the same.

I'm Jeni, a conventionally trained physician assistant who now works as a functional health consultant. And, while I don't have a magic wand or the secret solution the world has been hiding from you, I AM here to help you regain your health and sanity while you navigate the crazy, beautiful juggling act of motherhood + a career! Because you sure as shit don't have to do it alone. 

My Journey to Functional Health

Let’s kick things off with a little bit about who I am, so that I'm not asking you to trust a stranger, because that would be weird. I spent years in the conventional medical world, wearing my white coat and treating patients with the standard protocols. But it never felt quite right. I realized that while I was treating symptoms, I wasn’t actually treating the person. Or solving any problems. That got old pretty freakin’ quick. I tried different specialties but it was all the same. The system is a revolving door. In more ways than one, unfortunately.

I also got tired of spinning in circles as a patient myself. You’ll hear more about my personal story later. But for now, I'll just say - I struggled for years with anxiety, depression, migraines, insomnia, brain fog, pain, etc and because I was never treated as A WHOLE PERSON, I was spinning my wheels, looking for the one answer to make me feel better. But it didn't exist. There were so many variables that were contributing, I was never going to feel better until I looked at and addressed them together.

So I FINALLY let go of conventional medicine (both as a career annddd as a patient) and leaned into functional medicine – a holistic approach that looks at the whole person, not just the symptoms. I’ve known about this for years, but when you are in the system, it’s just difficult to make that switch. Once I did though, I knew I had to bring this knowledge to other burnt out, stressed out, working moms out here in the world.

This blog is all about giving you the tools and knowledge you need to thrive – not just survive – in your busy life. We’ll cover everything from nutrition and mental health to the latest in genetic testing and practical tips for managing anxiety and ADHD. All of my favorite things!! And we’ll do it all with a healthy dose of humor because let’s face it, if we can’t laugh at the chaos, we will cry. For sure.
